Land acknowledgement
Our relationship with the land
St. Williams Ecology Centre is based in St. Williams, Ontario, on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the longstanding connections of the Neutral, Wendat and Haudenosaunee peoples to this region. Indigenous Peoples have cared for the lands, waters, plants and wildlife of this area for generations, and those relationships continue today.
Our nursery is located in a region rich in biodiversity, including rare Carolinian ecosystems and habitat for many species at risk. Because our work involves growing native seed and helping restore landscapes, we recognize our responsibility to care for the land and to keep learning from the people connected to it.
We want this acknowledgement to be reflected in how we work now and in the future. We are both interested in building genuine relationships and supporting Indigenous-led priorities where our experience and resources can be useful. Indigenous Nations, communities and businesses interested in discussing native seed production, ecological restoration, land stewardship, biodiversity conservation or other forms of collaboration are invited to connect with our team.
